French housing discrimination is prohibited by Article 225-1 and following of the Code pénal, so single-sex accommodation must rest on a legitimate, proportionate justification (privacy, dignity, safety in shared space) — the model of the foyer de jeunes travailleuses. 1. Parties and Accommodation
This agreement is between the operator/landlord and the resident (résidente) for a room in a women-only residence or co-living house. It identifies the private room and the shared facilities (kitchen, lounge, bathrooms, laundry) to which the resident has access.
2. Nature of the Arrangement
Where meals, room servicing or reception are provided, the operator may structure this as a residence-services or foyer arrangement (e.g. foyer/résidence sociale) rather than an ordinary tenancy; a self-contained furnished room let is instead governed by the Loi du 6 juillet 1989. 3. Women-Only Occupancy and Non-Discrimination
Occupancy is reserved for women. French law prohibits housing discrimination (Article 225-1 and following of the Code pénal); single-sex accommodation is only lawful where it rests on a legitimate, proportionate aim such as privacy, dignity and safety in genuinely shared living space. The operator applies the policy consistently and without other prohibited distinctions (origin, religion, disability, etc.).
4. Fees and Deposit
The monthly fee or rent, any services package, and the deposit are stated. Where the arrangement is a furnished tenancy under the 1989 Act, the deposit does not exceed two months' rent excluding charges; the deposit is returned per statutory timelines. Housing aid (APL/ALS via CAF) may apply.
5. Safety and Security
The operator describes security measures: controlled or keypad entry, CCTV in common areas where lawful, secure locks, lighting, and staff or on-call contact. Residents must not share access codes or keys, must not prop open secure doors, and should report safety concerns immediately.
6. Visitor Policy
Visitors are permitted only under the stated policy, which may restrict overnight guests and access to private floors to preserve the single-sex, safe character of the residence. Residents remain responsible for their visitors' conduct and for signing them in where required.
7. Shared Facilities and Conduct
Residents share communal areas respectfully, keep them clean, observe quiet hours, and follow the house rules (règlement intérieur). Conduct that harasses, endangers or intimidates other residents is prohibited and may lead to termination.
8. Services Included
The agreement lists included services (wifi, utilities, cleaning of common areas, laundry, meals or reception where offered) and any extra-cost services, distinguishing them from the accommodation fee.
